6 Fun And Low-Spoon Spring Activities For People With Limited Energy

Spring is finally here, and for those of us who are spoonies and struggle with low energy levels, it can be challenging to find enjoyable activities that don’t leave us feeling drained. Socializing can be especially difficult when we can’t do all the same things as our friends. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of low-spoon activities that you can try this spring that allow you to get outside, socialize, and have fun without using up all your energy. Here are some ideas to get you started:

1. Get outside and enjoy nature

Spring is the perfect time to soak up some Vitamin D from the sun and enjoy the beauty of nature. You don’t have to go on a strenuous hike to enjoy the outdoors; a leisurely walk in the park, through the woods, or even around your neighborhood can be a great low-impact exercise that gets you some fresh air. If you’re not up for a walk, find a comfortable spot to sit and relax. Have a picnic by the lake, find a cozy bench to sit on, or spend time on your patio, balcony, or backyard. Simply opening a window and letting in some fresh air can also help you enjoy the season.

2. Set up a makeshift campsite

If you’re looking for a low-energy way to enjoy the great outdoors without roughing it in the wilderness, consider setting up a makeshift campsite in your backyard. Gather some friends, pitch a tent, build a fire, and roast marshmallows for a fun and cozy night under the stars. And if you don’t have a backyard, camping in your living room can be just as fun. You can even roast marshmallows in the oven, microwave, or on the stove (if you have a gas one), just be careful not to burn yourself! And if you don’t have a tent, building a blanket fort can be just as enjoyable.

3. Have a movie night

Sometimes, all you need is some good company, snacks, and entertainment to have a fun and relaxing evening. Movie nights are a great way to spend time with your friends while using minimal energy. Socializing can be exhausting, but with a movie night, you can still spend time together while using minimal spoons. Plus they’re great for immunocompromised spoonies who have to avoid crowds.

4. Have a game night

Gather your friends and family for some board games, card games, or video games. This takes a few more spoons than a movie night, but it’s a really fun way to socialize with your favorite people that is not physically demanding (unless you’re playing something like Twister).

5. Socialize virtually

If you’re feeling too tired to leave the house, or your friends live too far away for it to be practical to see them, consider socializing virtually. You can connect with friends through video calls, or even host a virtual game night. I’ve personally played cards against humanity online with friends in different cities. Some streaming services also allow for group watching so you and your friends can watch something from different places. There are plenty of ways to stay connected with others without leaving your couch or even your bed.

6. Pick up a new hobby

Spring is an excellent time to try out a new hobby. Some hobbies require a lot of spoons, like exercising, cooking, canning, woodworking, or gardening. I’m not saying you shouldn’t do those things. If you’re capable and want to, they’re fun things to do! They can also be modified to use fewer spoons, like using a chair while cooking or doing yoga instead of Zumba. But there are lots of other hobbies that require way less energy.

Hobbies like knitting, crocheting, makeup, painting, drawing, meditating, playing video games, reading, or writing are super fun and don’t involve strenuous movement. Many of them can also be done anywhere. You can take your sketchbook outside and enjoy the warm sun and cool breeze while drawing, or take a journal with you everywhere and write down any thoughts you have. Whether it’s knitting or playing video games, there are plenty of low-energy hobbies you can pick up. Who knows? You might even discover a new passion that will energize you in the long run.

Spring is a wonderful time of year, and with these low-spoon activities, you can make the most of it without sacrificing your energy levels. Whether you prefer to be outside enjoying nature, cozying up for a movie night, or picking up a new hobby, there are plenty of options available. So why not try something new this season and see what sparks joy and rejuvenation within you?
