Abscess (absceso) – a swollen area in the body that contains a pocket of pus
Anal fissure (fisura anal) – a small tear in the lining of the anus which can cause pain or bleeding
Anus (ano) – the opening of the rectum that allows stool to exit the body
Autoimmune disease (enfermedad autoinmune) – a medical condition in which the body’s immune system attacks’ itself
Chronic illness (enfermedad crónica) – An illness that lasts a long time, often can be permanent
Colon (colon) – the longest part of the large intestine that absorbs water and electrolytes
Colostomy (colostomía) – A procedure in which a piece of the colon is diverted to an opening of the abdominal wall. Waste is then released in a bag adhered around the opening.
Crohn’s disease (enfermedad de Crohn) – An inflammatory bowel disease that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal system
Digestive tract (tubo digestivo) – gastrointestinal tract that is comprised of the organs that help food and liquids to pass through the body, it includes the mouth, throat, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus
Disability (discapacidad) – a physical or mental condition that limits or impairs a person’s ability to function in their daily life
Esophagus (esófago) – The part of the digestive tract that carries food from the mouth to the stomach, shaped like a tube
Fistula (fístula) – an abnormal connection between two organs
Hemorrhoids (hemorroides) – swollen veins in lower rectum, and anus, often caused from straining
IBD / inflammatory bowel disease (Enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal) – an autoimmune illness that causes chronic inflammation in part or all of the digestive tract
IBS/ irritable bowel syndrome (síndrome del intestino irritable) – a medical condition where the digestive system causes a multitude of chronic symptoms.
Ileostomy (ileostomía) – A procedure in which a piece of the ileum is diverted to an opening of the abdominal wall. Waste is then released in a bag adhered around the opening.
Ileum (íleon) – the last part of the small intestine that connects to the large intestine

NSAIDSNon-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (AINE) -medicines that are used to reduce inflammation and pain, these include most over the counter pain medications that are not tylenol, such as ibuprofen
Ostomy (ostomía) – A procedure that allows waste to pass through a surgically created opening (stoma) in the abdomen
Output (producción) – waste or stool that comes out of a stoma
Rectum (recto) – the last few inches of the large intestine, which connects to the anus
Spoonie – a person with limited daily energy
Stoma (estoma) – A surgically created opening in the abdomen where waste comes out of
Stool (heces) – bodily waste from the intestine
ulcerative colitis (colitis ulcerosa) – An inflammatory bowel disease that affects the large intestine
